Ali True Smith founder of True Balance Studio

Ali began her fitness career as an All-American lacrosse goalie, which earned her a full-five-year scholarship to Temple University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, the study of human movement.

Ali simultaneously enrolled at the Philadelphia School of Massage, where she studied massage therapy, shiatsu, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy, and many other techniques.

Upon graduation, Ali earned professional certifications from the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), American Council of Exercise (ACE), AFAA’s Kickboxing, International Fitness Professional Association (IFPA) in Advanced Personal Training, IFPA’s Sports Nutrition, Body Mind & Soul’s Yoga Certification in California, two levels of Usui System of Natural Healing Certification, and four levels of Equinox Fitness Training Institute (EFTI) from California.

Ali has also completed her Masters in Holistic Nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health.

Ali has gained the title, ‘Miss Maryland Fitness 2003’ and completed her first marathon in Ireland. Thereafter she moved to Hermosa Beach California, where she was asked to run the Body Mind & Soul Yoga studio, during her teacher training.

She then moved on to West Hollywood and worked for Equinox, putting her in front of many celebrities.  Here she trained Janice Dickinson (America’s Top Model TV show) and Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV). Dolph and Ali worked together for many years, while on set training in Africa, China, and London.

After her years in Hollywood, she returned to Baltimore to open her own private boutique training facility, True Balance Studio.  Her first studio, in Mt. Vernon, Baltimore was sold after 10 years and her second location in Anneslie, Maryland is a unique space that Ali can provide private and small group training to address specific needs and goals.

She also has an amazing team of people that teach classes, in small group settings, where form and technique can be addressed. The True Balance Studio family, offers a level of camaraderie, that inspires, motivates, and provides a safe judgement free zone, while people work through the challenges of getting fit.

Ali has recently been certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) which focuses on a science and medical approach to biomechanics, posture alignment and muscle imbalances. She is now also working towards her NASM for nutrition, as well as learning to work with children in the form of Yoga and Zumbini, through the Cosmic Yoga Certification Program. Her goal is to launch an interactive virtual training program to teach others safe and effective techniques which help people get back on their feet after life got in the way of their health and wellness success.

Ali is also involved in organizing wellness retreats to Costa Rica, but more trips are on the horizon.  Each trip inspires proper nutrition and exciting tours and adventures. Make sure you sign up here for more information for 2019.

We all have hurdles that often make our health and wellness not top priority. This takes us further and further from the person we need to be better.  Jumping back into a training program needs to be slow and progressive, to avoid injury. Our bodies change as we get older, the structure of our spine changes, our bodies are less forgiving and more vulnerable.  We need to be mindful about how hard we can push and smart about the form this needs to be achieved.”
